About us

Sheffield Young Explorers (SYE), founded in 2024 officially, is a grassroots organisation dedicated to empowering children, young people, and families. Our vision is to reduce inequalities, improve well-being, and create opportunities for growth by breaking down barriers through education, access to support, and safe, inclusive spaces where families can thrive for better futures.

Since our establishment, we have been dedicated to serving underserved communities across Sheffield, particularly in Darnall, Tinsley, Firth Park, Burngreave, Page Hall, and Fir Vale. What began as a grassroots effort to provide safe and inclusive spaces has grown into a trusted community organisation with a long-term mission to support families to thrive.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote positive mental health and wellbeing, nurture resilience, and build safe, inclusive, and culturally competent opportunities where every family feels seen, heard, and supported. We believe that by addressing challenges such as health inequalities, social isolation, and limited access to opportunities, we can equip children, young people, and families with the tools they need to flourish and reduce inequalities themselves.

A key area of our work has been delivering accessible and inclusive programmes that respond directly to the needs of our communities. This includes school holiday programmes, sports, craft therapy, support groups, wellbeing initiatives, leadership development, and nature-based activities. Each of these is co-designed with the families we serve, ensuring they are culturally sensitive, relevant, and impactful.

Our focus has expanded to include programmes that not only enhance wellbeing but also raise aspirations and strengthen family and community connections. From reducing isolation through peer support to providing safe spaces for children and young people to explore, learn, and lead, we are committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.

We are proud of our highly qualified and culturally competent team, who bring decades of lived experience, deep local knowledge, and authenticity to their work. Their ability to connect with families in ways that are empathetic and sensitive is at the heart of our impact.

Through this work, Sheffield Young Explorers is building stronger, healthier communities: reducing isolation, improving wellbeing, and creating lasting opportunities where children, young people, and families can grow, heal, and succeed.
